Sexual Harassment
Sexual harassment is typically defined as inappropriate conduct or behavior such as verbal comments and/or touching of a sexual nature, inappropriate requests for sexual favors or unwelcome sexual advances. This can also include any sexual violence such as bullying an employee into having sex, the use of force to make that employee have sex and any abusive contact of a sexual nature. Sexual harassment can be as subtle as repeatedly asking someone on a date or suggestions that a personal relation is desired.
If you complain about sexual harassment, your employer is required to investigate and take action to stop the harassment. In some cases, if you are being harassed by a co-worker, your employer may not be liable if you fail to report the harassment or fail to follow company procedures to resolve your complaint.
If you are being harassed by your supervisor, your company is usually liable. However, you must report it to the company if possible.
If you are uncomfortable reporting the harassment, you may contact our office for assistance with filing a complaint or taking legal action.
